April 28th-May 1st

This trip began on an interesting note. My plane’s right (or was it left) engine began by needing some major work. We sat on the plane for a good hour. I dozed for about an hour until we were asked to de-board the plane. A tad wary, we got back on the plane two hours later.
By this small good fortune I was able to meet an amazing woman. From the first moment I met her, I felt an instant ease and sense that there was no need to b/s. I learned that we had a great deal in common. Her granddaughter had gone to a small private college in upstate New York, that she was 24 and that she had majored in photography. The conversation took off from there and we discussed a myriad of topics from politics, to family, to romantic woes, to living in the Midwest, to being a woman and art, the conversation always came back to art.
At one point the conversation became so intense that I was brought to the verge of tears. There was something so wonderful about speaking with a completely unbiased third party. I learned that she and her family were famous in the art/film world and yet, after the first couple of minutes of shock, the conversation was as real as any that I might have had with a long time friend. I got off the plan in NYC in state of bliss and was ready to rock.

Szkotak arrived a tad late, as he boldly decided to drive in NYC traffic to come get me from the airport. We ended up getting lost on the way back, but decided that a drive might be nice. This is how Szkotak and I spent much of our time together in Rochester, just driving and chatting, singing, acting goofy, or sitting in a comfortable silence while Simon and Garfunkel played in the background. Of course, eventually we would be belting out, what we thought to be, beautiful ballads.
We got to Szkotak’s large apartment in Queens around 11pm we were both tired, so we grabbed some economic yet delicious Chinese food. We chatted it up and shortly thereafter I passed out on his couch.
Saturday was spent moving Szkotak’s friend May into her new apartment. I got to hang out with his crew, consisting mostly of acquaintances from high school that have since become good friends. As we rode ninja style in the back of the moving van I chatted with everyone and realized how much I miss having a close-knit group of people to hang out with. May had a small apartment, the largest item being a small mattress. There were 6 of us and we finished the move in no time. Afterwards, we walked to a Fish n’Chips bar in Brooklyn where I tried curry with chips for the first time. YUM. May bought us all ice cream, we went back to Tim’s house and then dissipated.
I get bored with my writing fairly quicken pick up the pace with the NYC trip. Saturday more hanging outage, walking around various places in Manhattan and Whole Foods for dinner. Sunday, Szkotak and I ventured out to hipster paradise (Williamsburg in Brooklyn) to the massive Flea market that occurs there every weekend. The best part was the walk out of the area where Szkotak and I incessantly made fun of “the hipster”. After a brief nap we met up with my brother and went to the Upright Citizens brigade. I won’t lie I was disappointed by the performance. However, it all ended on a jovial note, this was the place that I will always remember first hearing about Osama Bin Laden’s death (for real this time)
